Top 10 Reasons

Why you should not miss the Rock That Swing Festival

1. Five Nights with the Best Swing and Rock’n’Roll Bands

16 top bands guarantee the best music to dance to, from Thursday through Monday. Between the band sets and on 2 extra dance floors our DJs take over—the music never stops all night.

2. Learn from the Best—Over 300 Classes for Every Level

The Rock That Swing Festival is one of the largest events of its kind, with top instructors for Boogie Woogie, Lindy Hop, Balboa, Shag, Blues, Rockabilly Jive, Charleston and Solo Dance. Choose from more than 300 classes covering the dance styles of the 1920s to the 1950s—from beginner tracks to special sessions for competition dancers and instructors. Each class has its own self-contained theme, so you freely pick your classes on site and build your own personal schedule. All classes are held in professional studios with wooden floors. On top of that, you get the rare chance to meet inspiring swing dance legends and learn from them.

3. Dancers from All Over the World

Guests from around the globe create a truly special atmosphere. You will dance with people you would never have met otherwise—and make friends that last long beyond the festival. Feel free to come on your own: in the evenings people simply ask each other for a dance, no partner needed. And if you want to meet even more people, add the Dance Camp – partners change constantly in the classes. Many of our guests travel alone and go home with new friendships.

4. Unique Venues—All Right in the Heart of Munich

Glamorous ball nights at the beautiful Deutsches Theater, the Künstlerhaus and the Vintage Club, on wonderful parquet floors and with the finest live music. All venues are in Munich’s old town and only a few minutes’ walk apart—no shuttles, no long transfers between the evenings. It is about a 5-minute walk from the main station to the Check-In, and about 3 minutes from the Karlsplatz/Stachus S-Bahn stop. From the airport the S-Bahn gets you into the city in roughly 40 minutes. And between classes the whole city is on your doorstep.

5. Book Flexibly—Single Days Instead of One Full Package

Most festivals only sell one full package. At Rock That Swing you book the Dance Camp by the day—from one day up to five—and the evenings individually. That way you tailor your booking to your time and your budget instead of paying for days you cannot attend. Students and groups of 10 or more get additional discounts.

6. The 20th Edition—and 100 Years of Lindy Hop

In 2027 we celebrate the 20th edition of the Rock That Swing Festival—and 100 years of Lindy Hop at the same time. The anniversary comes with special highlights you will only see this once.

7. Breathtaking Shows and Performances

See spectacular shows by world-class dancers and international champions, in Lindy Hop, Shag, Blues, Burlesque, Balboa and Boogie Woogie among others.

8. Open Contests You Can Enter Yourself

You can take to the floor yourself in the open RTSF contests: you need a ticket for that evening and you also register for the contest through our online system—the registration fee is 10 Euro per person and contest. Then, just like at the Savoy Ballroom in the 1930s, the applause of the audience decides who wins. There is honor, prizes and tickets for other festivals to be won.

9. Vintage Market and Time to Recover

At the Vintage Market you will find stylish, dance-friendly retro and vintage clothing, dance shoes, accessories and RTSF souvenirs—during the Dance Camp and in the early evening. And if you need a break after five days of dancing, you can book a massage at festival rates.

10. Free Intro Classes in the Evenings

Never danced swing before, or no time for the Dance Camp? On Saturday and Sunday there are free 30‑minute intro classes before the live music starts. After that you will dare to step onto the dance floor.
