CLASSES FOR BEGINNERS

Levels  /  Dance Descriptions

Learn to dance

Rock That Swing is a great place to start swing dancing. Just bring your dance shoes and a small portion of patience The teachers will make sure that you will have a good time and be able to dance the night away.

The Dance Camp offers therefore special beginner tracks during the day that don't require any dance experience. In the Dance Camp class schedule those classes are marked as BEG (Beginner). They are available for:

Boogie Woogie, Lindy Hop, Balboa, Shag, Rockabilly Jive, Blues, Charleston, and Solo Dance

If you are new to swing dancing and don't have the time to take part in the Dance Camp you alternatively can join a short free introduction class as part of the evening events on Saturday and Sunday before the bands begin to play.

Beginner Tracks

Beginner courses are offered on a daily basis. Each day is self-contained and requires no prior knowledge. Beginner courses that are offered on multiple days have different content for every day. If you want to start with one of these dances, you can start on any day.

You must have mastered the complete set of beginner classes before you can continue with the next level of classes, because the higher classes will build up on a mix of the material of the different beginner tracks.

Each beginner track consists of 3 classes that will build-up on each other and instruct you step by step. So if you are completely new to a dance you must start with the first lesson and must not skip any of the set. You'll learn the necessary foundation (footwork and basic elements) for the particular dance you choose.

Taster Classes

The forth class of each day is filled with taster classes. Here you can try out additional beginner classes for various other dances.

“All Levels” Classes

Some tracks and classes are labeled All Levels. You don't need any pre-knowledge for those classes, but they will move on faster than a dedicated beginner class. If you have dancing experience than you should be able to follow those classes. If you are complete new to dancing than a dedicated beginner class or track might be more suitable for you.
